one day of many

 One day of many

It is a warm day and I sit on granite rock on the shore of Back Cove. .The rock heated by the sun is warm and I slide my feet into the cold water. This is a place I love, a place I swim from on hot summer days, a place that refreshes the soul. There is a slight breeze and the sound of the moving leaves  of the popular trees is like the sound of light rain. There are other sounds of water lapping the shore rocks and gulls crying above as they fly by.The clouds drift in the sky changing their shape as they move. Looking toward the sun it creates sparkling diamonds on the water surface, but in the shadows of the water not in the current of the tide are reflections of the trees, the pines that grow crowded together down the hill to the granite shore.

I have come to this place many hundreds of times, to swim, to paint or just to appreciate the place, a place of beauty. This place never looks the same, it changes as the  sun moves , it disappears in the fog. It changes with the seasons, the oaks are  bronze in fall and winter snows  cling to pine branches and cover the earth below in a white carpet. Ice forms along the shore.  Gales drive the water crashing against the rocks and white caps dance on the water surface. There is drama and there is calm. If you are in the moment , focused, then you are a pard of it all.

It is the life of the planet that gives us life. As the saying is, “it nourishes the soul,”
