Garden timw can be intense so it is good to have a rainy day, be inside and write this blog. My sons came to visit the first week in May. The weather was perfect and cool enough to keep the black flies to a minimum. Most of the time was spent working on my garden. They made raised beds and rotated compost into the soil. The wood was rough hemlock 2x12x12, very heavy. I now have 4 beds, 4 feet wide and 24 feet long. Chris and I had a little time to paint together and we went to Rockland to see some art in the galleries. Pictires speak better then words so I have garden photoes . You see why I love my place so much. I love the dandilions. Haven't had time to mow the lawn.

Mother's Day

It is a beautiful spring day, cool and windy, a good day to work outside. As I sit here I hear lawn mowers and a chain saw. Mother's day was yesterday. Mothers think of their children and children think of their mothers, that is if they are loving families. I came from a loving family, a time when moms stayed home and raised a family. Formost I wanted a family. I am gifted as an artist and married a musician,  composer. Charlie and I were blessed blessed with two  creative sons. It is a joy to be a part of their lives. Charlie and I were not normal parants. I surpose we were dysfunctioal as we did not fit into whaat is considered a normal society. When one thinks of children being brought up in a dysfunctional family I think of alcoholic parients, children being beaten or not being cared for. Charlie and I loved our children as I still do.

Charlie and I did not know how to market our creations, paintings and music. Neither could we do sonething we did not like to do. Somehow we managed to make enough money to survive. It was cloths from thrift shops, lots of soups, and oranges for Christmas. It was cold winters living in a house that was like a barn, some times without electricity or hot water. This environment became normal for me . I was young and healthy. None of us got sick, maybe a cold once in a while.  We lived day to day, living in the now as it is called in this age. This experience gave me a great appreciation for what I had and to this day when I take a shower I say thank you for this hot water, and when it is cold outside I say thank you for this warm house. What I am thankful for the most, is my children.

The environment the boys grew up in caused them to find work at a young age. Both had paper routes, Chris picked vegetables, washed dishes, and on to cooking chef,  now artist and carpender. Doug fished and both boys dug clams
. Doug learned boat building in school  which led him to carving, sculpture, carpenter  and potter. They are loving caring generious adults, and are contributing greatly to this world. Yes the waves of a pebble continue to move out and on to infinity. If you believe in reincarnation and we choose our parents all by agreement then I am the luckest parent in the world. I am truly blessed.

April  14 2013

Crop circles have always fascinated me. I want to use the geometric shapes in my paintings but not in a mandala form of a circle. I want to combine the shapes, connect them or move them in a fibonacci series. I really can’t explain how I come up with these designs, a lot is trial and error. So far I have made 24 sacred geometry designs, most this winter. I have gone back and forth between abstract painting and realism for years. With abstraction i see something in reality that triggers a series of paintings, variations of a theme and that excitement goes on until something else attracts me. I am always turned on and see things things as shapes rather than objects which can sometimes lead to painting abstractly.

Dog in the Field

This is what  spring looks like around here  now. Every yard has forsythia and the soft pastel colors of greens and reds are filling out in trees and hedges. The false hope of having an early garden vanished as the warm weather of early April  turned cool and wet.  As much as I want to plant the garden the cool wether prolongs spring. It  develops slower, over several weeks to a month, so i enjoy it  for a longer time.

I painted this scene in my yard with Mira my dog. She did not pose. I have many photos of her. She is an active dog and the only time Mira is still is when she is sleeping.

The birds are singing all day and the peeps  are singing at night. All is well on Back Cove

Easter

Happy Easter everyone.

I hope the Easter bunny brought you something nice. I had friends over for a delicious dinner and we had a loverly evening together. What could be better then being with friends and family that you love.
Easter for me symbolizes rebirth, new ideas, creation, immortality of our soul.

Spring is here. The warm winter and lack of snow has helped spring to arrive early. I keep a record of when the first daffodils open and when the frogs start to peep and croak. This year the bull frog in my yard pond started to croak on the first day of spring March 21, and a rumble came out of the swamp a few days latter. The daffodils are fully open in front of the house. I have eaten chives and dandelions, the grass is getting green and the flocks of robins are on the lawns looking for worms. I wake up in the morning to the sound of singing birds. Winters sleep is over and the alarm clock has rung. New life pushes up through the ground and buds swell on the trees. It makes me glad to watch spring unfold. I planted beets and spinach and peas, which I have never done this early is the season. So I wish everyone a happy spring. Get outside and breath the air, look at everything and put your hands in the dirt. Who knows  what changes can take place with an open heart.

farm road 20x24 acrylic

I painted this painting a weak ago, then I got the flu and I haven't recovered enough to paint, no energy.

I live on a small peninsula. At the end of a dirt road is a private island with a gate. I like to walk  there in the winter  which is possible this winter with the lack of snow. There are several summer homes  that use this road.
